A Reckless High School Student Exhibits Numerous Alcohol-Related Problems, Gets Suspended From School, And Has To See The School Therapist

Stephen was a fifteen year old high school sophomore who was exhibiting quite a few alcohol-related difficulties at school. Therefore, the principal told him that he had to see Miss Pender, the school counselor, before he would be allowed to return to school.

Later that day when Stephen went home after school, he had to explain his school situation to his parents. His parents were "relatively traditional" and informed Stephen that getting thrown out of school was not a practical educational option. They explained to Stephen that failing to graduate from high school would more likely than not be like a lead weight around his legs that could quite possibly impair his educational attainment for the rest of his adult life. What is more, Stephen's Mother and Father were quite dissatisfied that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his classmates in the second.

It was apparent that his Mother and Father were 100% in agreement with Stephen's principal and told Stephen that he had better make plans to see Miss Pender, the school counselor. After his talk with his parents, Stephen eventually agreed to see Miss Pender the next day. So Stephen called the school and scheduled an appointment to see Miss Pender the next morning.

When Stephen went to see Miss Pender, she promptly examined all of the alcohol-related issues Stephen had experienced and asked him if he understood why his recent alcohol-related behavior caused quite a bit of anxiety by the school administrators.

Quite honestly, Stephen was not sure why the principal suggested that he see a school therapist. As he expressed to Miss Pender, why should he see a professional psychologist about his drinking situation? Since almost all of his classmates drink as much if not more than he does, for all intents and purposes, drinking is no big thing. Stated another way, if just about everyone is drinking, why is this such a major problem?

In a word, Stephen's involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to short-circuit his ability to act like a responsible young man. As conveyed by Miss Pender, "Just because most of your friends drink wine, hard liquor, wine coolers, or beer does not mean that it is the best thing in the world for you."

Luckily, Miss Pender was quite organized for her conference with Stephen. She showed him research studies and reports she had underlined that summarized various drinking facts and statistics that applied to most people in general. Then she showed Stephen quite a lot of figures and reports that applied particularly to teenagers.

After Miss Pender presented the aforesaid teenage alcohol and teen alcohol abuse facts and statistics, it was plain to see that what Miss Pender taught Stephen was a real source of revelation for him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only took the time to give an explanation of the long term and the short term effects of alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction, but she also made the effort to back up what she was saying with alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse facts and statistics that related to people in general, and chiefly to young people.

Definitely, it was almost as if a light went on and Stephen without pause understood why he should not be engaging in hazardous and abusive drinking with or without his friends any longer. Stephen thanked Miss Pender for her concern and for the information she discussed and then accepted her reinstatement into class.
